How long does it actually take to set up an AI chatbot?

"A few minutes" is technically true and practically misleading. Connecting a channel takes minutes. Getting a chatbot to the point where you trust it in front of customers takes a bit longer — here's a realistic breakdown of where the time actually goes.

How long does connecting a channel take?

A website widget is genuinely fast — paste an embed snippet, and it's live within minutes. Telegram is similarly quick once you have a bot token. WhatsApp Business API is the outlier: provisioning and verification through your provider can take anywhere from same-day to a few business days, depending on your business documentation and Meta's review queue.

How long does training take?

This is where most of the real time goes, and it's worth doing properly rather than rushing. Uploading FAQs and product pages is quick — an hour or two for most small catalogs. The part that takes longer is reviewing the chatbot's actual answers against real questions and correcting anything that's outdated, ambiguous, or missing from your source content. Budget a focused afternoon for this on a first launch, more if your product line or policies are complex.

When should you actually go live?

Not the moment setup is technically complete. Run the chatbot through a list of your ten most common customer questions first, and check its answers against what you'd actually tell someone yourself. If it gets two or three wrong, fix the source content those answers came from before turning it on for real customers, not after.

So what's the realistic total?

For a single channel with a straightforward FAQ and product catalog: same day to go live, with a follow-up review session a few days later once you've seen how it handles real questions. Add a channel at a time rather than launching all three simultaneously — it's easier to catch and fix gaps in training when you're only watching one conversation stream.
